CSUN Chemistry Professor Receives Society Award
for Distinguished Service

(NORTHRIDGE, Calif., Nov. 30, 2000) - The Southern California Section of the American Chemical Society has honored a Cal State Northridge chemistry professor with the 2000 Agnes Ann Green Distinguished Service Award.

Henry Abrash received this award in recognition of his outstanding record of commitment and service to the society in California.

During his more than 30 years of involvement with the society, Abrash has held several elected leadership positions. He served five separate terms as alternate councilor and has chaired many committees including the Internal Affairs Committee, the Tolman Award Committee, and the Nominations and Elections Committee. He continues to play a prominent role in the societyıs high school chemistry contests and the post-secondary Undergraduate Research Conference.

Abrash said he is gratified to receive the award.

"It puts me in some very good company," he said, referring to the 12 recipients before him.

Agnes Ann Green, emeritus professor at Immaculate Heart College, was the first to receive the Southern California Sectionıs distinguished service award in 1988. The award is named in her honor.

Henry Abrash has taught chemistry at CSUN since 1961.
