MAY MUSIC FESTIVAL KICKS OFF
Cal State Northridge will kick off its eighth annual May Music Festival with the premiere of Civil War Reflections, a reproduction of the mid-19th century American brass band beginning at 8 p.m. Friday, May 3, in the university's Performing Arts Center.
The program features the university's Wind Ensemble and will include Ceremonies, a major new composition by Pulitzer Prize composer Ellen Taaffe Zwilich; a saxophone solo by Jerry D. Luedders, chair of the university's Music Department. The band will be conducted by David Whitwell.
The evening is in honor of two retiring faculty members, Frances Ulrich and Robert Delwarte.
Other festival performances include:
- Sunday, May 5 - CSUN Faculty Composers Recital, performed by the CSUN Music Ensemble and others, 8 p.m. in the Recital Hall of the Music Department
- Thursday, May 9 - CSUN Symphony, an evening of Latin-American symphonic music, 8 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center of the University Student Union
- Friday, May 10 - CSUN Jazz 'A' Band, a tribute to soloist Louis Jordon, 8 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center of the University Student Union
- Saturday, May 11 - CSUN Northridge Singers and Chamber Singers, 8 p.m. in the Recital Hall of the Music Department
- Sunday, May 12 - CSUN Youth Orchestras, featuring the Junior Youth Orchestra, the Concert Youth Orchestra and the Philharmonic Youth Orchestra, 3 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center of the University Student Union
The Performing Arts Center is in the University Student Union, near the center of the campus at 18111 Nordhoff St. in Northridge.
General admission is $6.50 and $3.50 for students and seniors. Tickets are available on campus or at any TicketMaster location
