"Viva El Mariachi" features the music of Josˇ Alfredo Jimenez, Miguel Acevez Mej’a and T—mas Mendez, along with Jose Hernandez' contemporary arrangements such as Frank Sinatra's "New York, New York" and Elvis Presley's "Are You Lonesome Tonight."
This musical journey from the 1920s to the present embraces tradition and embellishes mariachi through polkas, jarabes, and sones Veracruzanos danced by a ballet folklorico group.
El Mariachi Sol de Mexico de Josˇ Hernandez has recorded with some of the most recognized names in Latin music, including Linda Ronstadt, Juan Gabriel, Alvaro Torres and Vicki Carr. The group also has contributed to the soundtracks of such films as "The Old Gringo," "Don Juan de Marco," "American Me" and "A Million to Juan." Under the leadership of Hernandez, the Mariachi is the only mariachi in the world that performs in the classical musical circuit.
