CSUN HOSTS PROGRAM FOR YOUNG SCHOLARS

Too often parents and students wait until the high school years to prepare for college entrance exams and to begin preparing financially for college. But California educators and legislators are now placing importance on the advanced planning of college -- before the high school years.

February is "College Awareness Month" and in recognition of this proclamation, the Future Scholars Program at Cal State Northridge will host a program, "College: Making It Happen," targeting 6th through 9th grade students and their parents, on Wednesday, Feb. 28. The program will be held at the Northridge Center at 6 p.m. in the University Student Union at 18111 Nordhoff in Northridge. It is open to the public and admission is free.

The program will provide practical and easy-to-understand information on how to prepare academically and financially for college. A video entitled, "College: Making It Happen," will offer advice and represents the first time all California's education systems - from kindergarten to college- have collaborated to develop a film production.

Representatives from local colleges will provide written materials with additional information and practical tips on how to prepare for higher education. They will also be available to answer questions from students and their parents.
