Dick Tyler Named University Associate VP of Public Relations

Corporate and Agency PR Veteran also is Former CSUN Lecturer

A public relations professional with more than 30 years experience in corporate and agency public relations has been named associate vice president of public relations and communications, reporting to University Relations Vice President William Outhouse.

Richard R. (Dick) Tyler (right)has worked for such national companies as American Airlines, Ford Motor Co. and Six Flags Corp. and has represented clients such as Hallmark, RCA, the Australian Trade Commision, Price Waterhouse, Sheraton Hotels and the government of the Bahamas.

Tyler has a long history with Cal State Northridge, having been a guest lecturer and panel participant on many occasions and, for more than a dozen years, taught the advanced public relations course offered by the Journalism Department. He served as faculty advisor and professional advisor to the campus chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America.

Tyler is a past president of the Los Angeles chapter of the Public Relations Society of America and received that organization's "Outstanding PR Professional" award in 1987. He has been designated a "Fellow" in PRSA's national College of Fellows, a distinction granted only to some 300 public relations professionals nationwide.

Tyler joined the University Relations Division in mid-November to head CSUN's Public Relations Department. The department recently relocated to new offices on the first floor of the Education Building, room 1105A. The department phone numbers and mail drop remained the same.

Tyler's wife is Marcella Tyler, executive director of PR, marketing and communications for the College of Extended Learning.
