Campus to Host Farewell Reception for Blenda Wilson

Submissions for Memory Book Being Sought;
Event Will Benefit Presidential Scholars Program

Cal State Northridge is hosting a farewell reception for departing university President Blenda J. Wilson and her husband, Louis Fair Jr., on Monday, May 24 at the University Club. The event is open to both campus community members and friends of the university in the San Fernando Valley.

In lieu of gifts, guests at the reception are being asked to make a donation to support the university's Presidential Scholars program for high-achieving students. The reception will be from 4-7 p.m., with a brief program led by CSUN Interim President Louanne Kennedy scheduled for 5:30 p.m.

Wilson-CSUN's third president, who has led the campus since September 1992-is leaving after the spring semester to become the first president and CEO of the Nellie Mae Foundation. The New England-based organization works to promote quality education in that region, particularly for under-served groups.

The University Club reception will include light snacks and refreshments. Those wishing to attend should RSVP by May 20, either by e-mail to, or by telephone to University Relations at (818) 677-5669 during business hours Monday through Friday.

Contributions to the Presidential Scholars program, launched during Wilson's nearly seven-year tenure as CSUN president, should be made out to the "CSUN Foundation-BJW Presidential Scholars Fund" and be mailed to University Relations, 18111 Nordhoff St., Northridge, CA 91330-8275.

Campus and community members also are being invited to contribute special photographs, notes or mementos to a memory book that will be given to the president. Submissions likewise should be sent to CSUN University Relations by Monday, May 17 at the same address listed above.
