Louanne Kennedy Honored at Retirement Reception

Faculty Senate Resolution Praises Retiring Provost as Advocate for Academic Excellence at All Levels

Louanne Kennedy, who retired at the end of August after ten years of service as provost and vice president for academic affairs, was honored as a "powerful advocate for academic excellence" at a University Club reception and roast attended by about 200 campus colleagues.

Following is a resolution presented on behalf of the Faculty Senate by Chair Michael Neubauer:

"Whereas Louanne Kennedy has served California State University Northridge most ably as Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, and

Whereas Louanne Kennedy responded to the Northridge earthquake—which followed her arrival on campus by only a few months—with decisive, dynamic, and highly effective leadership;

Whereas Louanne Kennedy generously remained in the temporary but unforgettable 'Dome' until classes were returned to real buildings and all faculty returned to appropriate offices; and

Whereas Louanne Kennedy has been a powerful advocate for academic excellence at every level, from our newest first-year students to our most venerable senior faculty; and

Whereas Louanne Kennedy has been a determined and insistent advocate for student success; and

Whereas Louanne Kennedy has been an intelligent, courageous, and passionately committed member of the university community; and

Whereas Louanne Kennedy is visionary in her commitment to the faculty recruitment and hiring process; and

Whereas Louanne Kennedy has always had a clear sense and unerring instinct for priorities that advance the mission as well as the heart of the university; and

Whereas Louanne Kennedy has led this campus with humor, intelligence, and well-timed righteous fury as well as love; and

Whereas Louanne Kennedy's creativity, intelligent leadership, and hard work are responsible, to a large extent, for many of CSUN's recent successes—such as high praise when earning WASC accreditation, and the award of the prestigious Teachers for a New Era Initiative; and

Whereas the Faculty Senate has benefited from the positive, candid, and humorous interactions with Louanne Kennedy;

Therefore, be it resolved that the Faculty Senate of CSUN acknowledge the power of her presence here, and the loss her absence will bring; and

Be it further resolved that the Faculty Senate of CSUN acknowledge that words cannot reflect the depth of respect and appreciation we have for her; and

Be it further resolved that the Faculty Senate of CSUN formally express its gratitude and appreciation to Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Louanne Kennedy for her extensive contributions and commitment to the campus community; and

Be it finally resolved that the Faculty Senate of CSUN wish Louanne Kennedy the very best in her future, which we hope will continue to include CSU Northridge and its community."
