Honors and Awards

Annette Besnilian (Family and Consumer Sciences) was named one of the Recognized Young Dietitians of the Year by the California Dietetic Association.

Robert Burger and Bruno Osorno (Electrical and Computer Engineering) were selected for the Outstanding Engineering Achievement Merit Award of the Engineers' Council.

Irene Clark (English) has received a curriculum development grant to incorporate a service learning component into an English 305 course for public health students.

Ramón García (Chicano/a Studies) was awarded a John Woods Grant to attend the Prague Summer Program, a yearly international writers' convention in the Czech Republic, sponsored by Western Michigan University.

Doris Helfer (Oviatt Library Technical Services) was awarded the Rose L. Vormelker Award from the Special Libraries Association (SLA), recognizing mentorship of students and professionals. She will receive her award at the annual SLA conference in Nashville, Tennessee.

Mona Houghton (English) has won the 2003 Melville Novella Contest, sponsored by Inconundrum Press, for her novella, "Frottage."

Carol Kelly (Child and Adolescent Development) was included in "Profiles of Ohio Women, 1803-2003," Ohio University Press.

Edward Larson (Civil Engineering and Applied Mechanics) was selected for the Distinguished Engineering Educator Award of the Engineers' Council.

Robert Ryan (Mechanical Engineering) was selected as a faculty fellow for the 2004 National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Faculty Fellowship Program at Dryden Flight Research Center.

David Whitwell (Music) appeared as guest conductor with the Virginia Commonwealth University Wind Ensemble and the Jamestown High School Band in conjunction with the convention of the American Bandmasters Association. n
