Guidelines for Establishing Series Authhority Records Under Personal Author

Introduction
The personal Author/Title series authority (800 $a $t) will be converted to 830 as shown in the procedure below. Please note that this is a responsibility of the Database Maintenance group.

Catalogers - please continue to give OCLC printouts of bib records that contain an
800 with $t to Diane Moore after you have cataloged the item.



1. For collective titles, use the following format:
 
 040 BB a CNO
             a CNO
 130 B0 aTitle (Last name, first name, date)
             l language.
             f date
 950 BB a Deviation from LC to avoid using author/title series entry.
   ARN=(LC authority record for reference) Initial, date.
 
 Title in 130 is always in English (provide 430 for series in original language).
 Search the Authority File in OCLC to find the correct form of title to use.

            Selections
            Correspondence
            Essays
            Novels
            Plays
            Poems
            Prose works
            Short stories
            Sonnets
            Speeches
 
 Examples:

 130 B0 a Works (Sade, marquis de, 1740-1814)
 430 B0 a Oeuvres completes (Sade, marquis de, 1940-1814)

2.  Unique series titles under personal author

 If the title is indeed series, establish the authority record under the title:

 In the bibliographic records, add a 490 1B Author. series title.
 Add 830 B0 a Title.  Then add a 700 for the author of the series, if not already traced.
