Dr. Julia Heinen, Professor of Clarinet for the Department of Music, has been awarded the 2012 Exceptional Creative Accomplishment Award from the Senate Committee for Faculty Awards. She will be honored with other faculty at a reception on May 21. The award carries with it a monetary prize as well.
Dr. Heinen has been an advocate for the creation and performance of new music for clarinet. She has premiered new works each year with music department faculty and has toured with these works nationally and internationally. Last summer Dr. Heinen was the Artistic Director for the International Clarinet Association’s ClarinetFest, held here at the Valley Performing Arts Center. The festival’s focus was on new music. Dr. Heinen plans to continue her busy touring schedule with upcoming trips including one to China in the fall.
