Douglas Tornquist has played tuba with virtually every orchestra in Southern California including the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the Hollywood Bowl, Pasadena Symphony, Glendale Symphony, the Joffrey Ballet, the Master Chorale Orchestra, and the Music Center Opera.

Currently, he is principal tuba with the Santa Barbara and Long Beach Symphony orchestras. He is on the faculties of California State University, Northridge; California State University, Long Beach; Occidental College; Pepperdine College; and, Pierce College.

Dr. Tornquist is active throughout Southern California as a soloist and clinician. He toured with the Saint Louis Symphony and was principal tuba of the Wichita Symphony Orchestra.

He holds a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Southern California and a Master’s degree in Tuba Performance from Wichita State University. Upon returning to California, he again attended USC to earn his Doctor of Musical Arts degree.

During the summer of 1997, Dr. Tornquist was awarded third prize in the International Tuba Solo Competition in Riva del Garda, Italy.
