Carey Christensen, Assistant Professor of Music, serves as the Option Coordinator of the Music Industry Studies (M.I.S.) Bachelor of Arts degree option. He is the first steward of the Mike Curb Endowed Chair in Music Industry Studies that was established in 2007 as the result of a $1 million gift donation by Mike Curb, founder and head of Curb Records.
Professor Christensen is also co-founder and Academic Director of the Masters of Arts in Music Industry Administration degree program at CSUN’s Tseng College of Extended Learning.
Prior to joining the CSUN faculty in 2008, Professor Christensen worked for the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences, Inc. (The Recording Academy) for eight years. Originally, he served as a Producer of Los Angeles-area special events, where he was responsible for educational and professional development event programming featuring major Music Industry personalities such as Quincy Jones, Jimmy Jam, Janet Jackson, John Williams, and Randy Newman. He later assumed the position of Senior Manager of Ticketing for both the GRAMMY® and Latin GRAMMY® Award presentations wherein he supervised the management of multi-million dollar ticketing operations for worldwide live-television broadcasts (46-50th GRAMMY Awards and 4-8th Latin GRAMMY Awards), managed customer service Call Centers, and assisted legal counsel with trademark infringement issues.
Prior to his work at The Recording Academy, Professor Christensen worked in Educational Music publishing (Alfred Music Publishing), non-music book publishing (Studio 4 Productions), Music Library services (Paramount Pictures, Alan Ett Music Group), and as a Contractor/Agent for Los Angeles-area musical acts.
As a double-bass instrumentalist, Prof. Christensen has performed and/or recorded with a variety of prominent musicians ranging from Neil Sedaka to Ben Harper.
Professor Christensen holds a Master of Science degree in Interdisciplinary Studies (M.B.A. and M.I.S.) and a Bachelor of Music degree in Performance from California State University, Northridge.
