Apply for Graduation

Liberal Studies Application for Graduation Process

There is a 3-step process to apply for graduation for ALL Liberal Studies Options.

  1. Make an advisement appointment to apply for graduation at least ONE YEAR in advance of your anticipated date of graduation by calling: (818) 677-3300. At least one semester of work must be completed in residence at Cal State Northridge before a Graduation Evaluation can be prepared. In order to receive a Graduation Evaluation prior to registration for your final semester, you must file before the application deadline. Consult the current Schedule of Classes for specific application deadline dates.
  2. After making an advisement appointment, you must complete your "MAP" (My Academic Planner) and take a printed copy to your appointment. Without your MAP, you may be asked to reschedule your appointment. For instruction on using the MAP, please review the following website: http://www.csun.edu/anr/soc/guides/map.html
  3. At your appointment, an advisor will update your advisement form, review a preliminary graduation worksheet, and sign your completed Application for Bachelor's Degree and Diploma form. Students will submit their completed Application for Bachelor's Degree and Diploma form along with any necessary attachments, and the $47 application fee to Admissions and Records in the Bayramian Hall BEFORE the application deadline. Consult the current Schedule of Classes for specific deadline dates.

Additional Information

  • If you declare a Second(ary) Major and/or a Minor, a department evaluation must be submitted with the application. Additionally, the application must bear the advisor's signature and major/minor catalog year. Completion of a minor is posted on the University transcript but is not indicated on the diploma.
  • You will receive a letter confirming receipt of your application and your planned graduation date. If you file your application by the published deadline, your Graduation Evaluation will be mailed to you before registration for your final semester. If you filed after the deadline for that semester, you will not receive your Graduation Evaluation prior to registration for your last intended semester.
  • Students may contact Office of Student Development and International Programs at (818) 677-2393 or visit http://www.csun.edu/commencement/ for Commencement and Honors Convocation information.

Changing your Date of Graduation

If you are unable to fulfill all degree requirements by the anticipated graduation date indicated on your submitted graduation application, you must submit a Graduation and Diploma Date Change form and pay an $8.00 processing fee. Failure to do so will result in the deactivation of your graduation file and cancellation of your registration for the following semester. You may also be held for additional requirements and/or you may need to reapply for admissions to the University.
