Type in your real name
in the "Nickname" box.
Leave the "Username" as is, with "java" in it.
Type in your email address in the "Email

When you connect, two "Java Applet" windows will
appear on your screen. They will be layered. The larger window underneath
is the Welcoming Window that tells you that you have connected to a CSUN
Server: Either irc.vcsun.org or chat.csun.edu. Please read the message
concerning the use of the University's IRC Servers.
The smaller Window layered over the Welcoming
Window is the Discussion Channel. This is the #ircpractice
site in which you will be typing your comments and reading the comments
of others. Use the larger resize window icon in the lower right corner
of the window and pull down until the white dialogue box appears.
-
After you enter the IRC Practice Site Channel, point
and click your mouse at the dialogue box at the bottom of the #Channel
Window. Note: On some computers, the dialogue box is hidden by the bottom
strip which says "Java Applet Window." In order for the consultant or anyone
else to see your words, you must hit the"enter" button after you type in
what you want to say. You will not see your < name > but everyone else
will so don't type in the brackets with your name. Review some simple
rules
of netiquette before you join the virtual writing site.
