He has published 3 books, has written more then 90 articles and presented 250 papers on the literature and culture of Latin America and minorities in the United States, at both national and international conferences. Professor Rigoberto Lanz of Princeton University speaking about Professor Ramos' scholarship said the following: "...I consider Professor Ramos to be one of the most original minds in Latin America literary criticism. Professor Ramos' scholarship is marked by originality, bread of vision and a solid critical theory. Indeed, it is precisely his concern with the relationship of literature to the historical process that lends great coherence to his work in such apparently disparate areas as literary theory, sociology, women studies,
Latin American literature, philosophy, and Latino writings in the United States."
As a university professor he has helped hundreds of students to attend college and as a community activist for many years, he has worked with homeless people in New York and Los Angeles.
