CSUN offers many field courses in ecology and evolution providing opportunities for hands-on research experiences. The Bachelor of Science Program (B.S.) offers students a specialty option in Environmental Biology. Graduate students in the Biology Master's program (M.S.) with interests in ecology and evolution develop a customized curriculum of advanced ecology and evolution topics that supports their interests and engage in original research for their thesis. CSUN students in ecology and evolution frequently publish their research in internationally recognized peer-reviewed journals. Graduates often go on to Ph.D. programs at other institutions or establish careers in environmental education, environmental consulting, or natural resource management.

Research


Faculty and students conducting research in ecology and evolution work in a wide variety of terrestrial and occasionally aquatic systems. Research is heavily field-oriented and ranges from testing hypotheses based on first principles to highly applied conservation work. Some students have also done interdisciplinary scholarship.
