What's in a Name - M

Madmartigan
My name, Madmartigan, as many have already guessed, is from my fovourite movie, called "Willow". I LOVE the sound of the name, and he was also my favorite character in the movie. That's it!

Manto
When I was a newbie (oh 2 whole months ago) I saw all these neat names and all I had was my real name. And I noticed a person on the forum was really good at picking out names and didn't seem to mind doing it. So, I left a message explaining about myself and hobbies and low and behold, I got a reply. From Heraclid; who just *LOVES* researching this stuff-- and can really explain it better. ......Manto was the daughter of a blind prophet named Tiersias (sp?) and she also had prophecy talents. Well, she would wander the countryside with her father acting as his eyes. Later, she was given to Apollo who helped her expand on her prophecy skills and eventually founded a city which today is named Mantua in her honor. .........Anyway, since I raise and train puppies for Guide Dogs for the Blind, Heraclid thought this name would be perfect--and he was right!

Megara
I choose the name Megara (not only because I liked the sound of it), but also because Megara was the first wife of Hercules, according to Greek Mythology.

Megasorbo
Okay, my name is not really a take-off on a Greek name. It is however, the result of my creativeness. Mega is a Greek prefix from the word "megas" which means "great". Of course I stole the last part of my name. However, if you put it all together it is----Great Sorbo!!!!

Melia
Hi everyone. After checking out many different web sites, as recomended by my new forum family, I have decided on Melia as my new forum name. Old one was Michelle.Burns. Melia is "She of the Ash Tree". She is the Muse Goddess of Rain Making and Tree Top Inspiration. She is also the Matron of Bronze Smith and the Giver of Fire. So Good bye to the old and on with the new.

Melite
Melite was a Naiad - one of the many nymphs who served as guardians of freshwater streams, lakes, fountains, etc. She was the daughter of the river god, Aegaeus, who protected the Aegaeus River. It's pronounced meh-LEE-tee.

Melpomene
for ages i couldn't think of a nick that i could use on the internet that reflected something i was interested in. one day i was looking through my Witches Companion(a companion to Anne Rices Mayfair series) and i came up with Endorwitch. so i was using that for a while. then i was looking for information on the role playing game Vampire:the masquerade on the net one day and i found out about a clan called the Daughters of Cacophony. they are singers but a trifle MAD and their madness was called melpominee (notice different spelling). i was wondering if melpominee was a real word and when i looked it up in the dictionary i found Melpomene - the muse of tradgedy. i have liked greek mythology for years so i thought this was pretty cool. anyways when i joined the herc forum i wanted something greek to use and so i decided on melpomene. so i have 2 nicks now. mel. for herc relatd stuff and endor. for anything else. some melpomene tidbits that i got from britannica and some dictionaries. she is usually depicted holding the mask of tradgedy in one hand and Heracles'(hercules) club in the other. according to one source she is the mother of the sirens (though i have also read that terpsichore was their other). also her name is meant to mean Songstress.

MESMERIZED
Although I have had a GREAT passion for Greek Mythology for quite sometime, and have been a HUGE H:TLJ and KEVIN fan since the first movie in 1994 (was hooked instantly!) I did not want to use a name from the show or from Greek Mythology, afraid there might be too much comparison I guess, I don't know, but anyway, the name MESMERIZED I think speaks for itself! That is exactly what I am when Kevin Sorbo's name is mentioned, his picture is present, or H:TLJ is running through my VCR yet another time!!!! Notice, it is in all caps, I understand this is considered "shouting" but that's just how bad I am MESMERIZED!!!!

Moondragon
The Moon comes from my significator in the Tarot deck. It is one of the major arcana suitable for use in representing individuals of either sex. The Dragon comes from the Chinese Zodiac designation for the year of my birth.

MsMoo
MsMoo is my America Online name (the one I use most anyway). It comes from the fact that I am a bonafide, born and bred Cheesehead from the State of Wisconsin. Actually, there's a file on the hoolie page (http://www.cris.com/~msmoo/sorbo/hoolie.htm) that has a PERFEECT pronunciation. It's Susabelle's daughter Ginny saying HI MIZ MUUUUWWW!!

MsZee
I was in a hurry to post so this was the best I could come up with fast. I use the "Title" of Ms in the non-virtual world just to even up the score with the guys (so ya don't know right off if I married or not ) so decided to also use it here. The Zee portion is because my first name (the non-virtual one) starts with a *Z* (Couldn't figure that out from my e-mail, right?) And my non-virtual name is of Greek origin in any event, so why go with another??
