Financial aid is probably the most frustrating and time consuming process in attending college. To ease the burden for the new student, here is a break-down of general financial aid, scholarships, loans, and student project funding.

HOW IT WORKS

The Financial Aid office establishes the need of the student by deducting the expected family contribution, and the studnets yearly needs.
Student Needs - Family Contribution = Money Allotted.

DEADLINE

COMPLETE AND MAIL APPLICATIONS BY THE DEADLINE!

  1. Do not mail before January 1.
  2. Apply for a Cal Grant (Grants are money you don’t have to pay back) by March 2. (This can be combined in your FAFSA (Free Application for Student Aid).

Within 4 - 6 weeks after submitting a FAFSA, you will receive a SAR (Student Aid Report) in the mail. Resubmit with the changes indicated as soon as possible.

RESEARCH

Make sure you acquire the following as to avoid possible delays:

  1. Financial Aid Workbook.
  2. The Student Guide to Financial Aid.
  3. Free Application for federal Student Aid.
  4. Make an appointment with a Financial Aid Counselor.
  5. Attend Financial Aid seminar offered every semester. Make an appointment through the Financial Aid Office.

NOTE: All these are available in the Financial Aid Office, in the food court, near the bookstore.

SCHOLARSHIPS AND LOAN OFFICE

Sources and directions for Scholarship Search:

BINDERS

Located in the Scholarship office, make a list of scholarships that you are eligible for, and the deadlines. Applications are located in the office.

UNIVERSITY SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

Application available at the end of November, available in the Scholarship office.

SCHOLARSHIP BOOK

Request from the counter attendant (or at the library, bookstore, internet, etc...) Bring your picture I.D.

THEATRE DEPARTMENT

Check with the Theatre Department office for scholarships: (818/ 677-3086).

INTERNET / WORLD WIDE WEB

A free computerized search is available, and can be done in any computer lab on campus.

Loacted in the hallway of the Scholarship office, posting the most current scholarships available (in the Sholarship office behind the Financial Aid office).

Small Short Term Student Loans

Are available to all students, and do not exceed $300.00. Payment is due the month after loan is issued. Lateness in repayment results in an interest rate and loss of privilege to acquire another personal loan.

THEATRE DEPARTMENT STUDENT PROJECT GUIDELINES FOR FUNDING

How to attain funds for a Student production:

  1. Follow the Student Project Guidelines: Available in the Theatre Department Office.
  2. Contact the Theatre Department’s Associated Student Representative: currently Laura Clark.
  3. Create a Budget Proposal.
