The mission statement of the Family Focus Resource Center is to support children, youths and adults with developmental disablities, their families and interested professionals in providing access to timely and accurate information and referral sources, implementing a parent-to-parent support system, promote community outreach and awareness to meet the needs of underserved populations and provide education for families and professionals sensitive to multicultural and concerns.
The area served by the Family Focus Resource Center is the San Fernando and Santa Clarita Valleys. There are 31 independent incorporated cities and a population of 1,300,000 people. The San Fernando Valley is 30 miles northwest of Los Angeles and includes Arleta, Calabasas, Canoga Park, Chatsworth, Encino, Granada Hi11s, Hidden Hi11s, Lakeview Terrace, Mission Hills, Northridge, North Hollywood, Pacoima, Panorama City, Reseda, San Fernando, Sepulveda, Sherman Oaks, Studio City, Sylmar, Tarzana, Universal City, Van Nuys, West Hills, Winnetka and Woodland Hills. The Santa Clarita Valley is located 45 miles northwest of Los Angeles and includes Canyon Country, Castaic, Newhall, Saugus and Valencia. There are eight languages spoken which includes English, Spanish, Armenian, Korean, Hebrew, Russian, Chinese and Thai. There are approximately ?,000 developmentally disabled children and adults served by the North Los Angeles County Regional Center each year.
The Family Focus Resource Center is located in the College of Education, Room 3113, California State University, Northridge. The building is located just east of Etiwanda Avenue and just north of Vincennes Street. The Family Focus Resource Center is accessible for individuals with physical challenges.
The FFRC is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm, Monday through Friday and by appointment evening and weekends. Answering machines are operating twenty four hours a day. Calls are returned within 48 hours both in English and Spanish.
