This statewide program is administered locally by the Los Angeles County Department of Children's Medical Services providing children with occupational (OT) and physical (PT) therapy services when indicated at no charge. These services can be provided at therapy units located in special education schools or i n satellites located in other schools served by the MTU staff. These services are available to children from birth to age 21 who have chronic neuromuscular, orthopedic or other eligible diagnoses. CCS provides diagnostic testing, specialized medical care, equipment and therapy services for eligible children. The program is financed by public funds and supplemented by family payments when indicated. An important aspect of the program is that it may provide funds to assist many otherwise self supporting families in meeting unusual medical expenses.. The Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) provides protective services and placement for abused, neglected and runaway children throughout the Los Angeles County area at no cost to families.
The Child Health & Disability Prevention Program provides health checkups by trained medical staff to help children and teens stay healthy, find health problems early and answer health questions. Children are eligible from birth to 19 years with low/moderate income. The North Los Angeles County Regional Center, (NLACRC) Inc. is a private, nonprofit corporation which provides diagnostic evaluations, client program management and life-long planning services for persons with developmental disabilities and their families. The NLACRC area includes the San Fernando, Santa Clarita and Antelope Valleys. It is funded through a contract with the California Department of Developmental Services.
