Grading System & Policies:

The Great Pyramid is flanked here by the Sphinx of Gaza.

Grading for the course is on a “Plus-Minus” basis as described in the 2004-2006 CSUN Undergraduate and Graduate Catalogue (56-57). The final grade is based upon the cumulative grade point averaged derived from the four (4) aforementioned primary grade factors. Final grading shall be as follows:

“A” = 3.7-4.0;

“A-“ = 3.5-3.69;

“B+” = 3.3-3.49;

“B” = 3.0-3.29;

“B-“ = 2.7-2.99;

“C+” = 2.3-2.69;

“C” = 2.0-2.29;

“C-“ = 1.7-1.99;

“D+” = 1.3-1.69;

“D” = 1.0-1.29;

“D-“ = .7-.99;

and

“Fail” = 0.0-.69.

The grade of “Incomplete” shall only be issued to those students doing passing work (i.e., “C+” or better) who are forced due to circumstances beyond their control – and subject to full documentation – miss submitting the Final Examination and/or Case Study. These are students who have completed a body of work during the semester to include a substantial portion of the film evaluations, participation in the Rap Time Discussion Forums, successful participation in the Chat ‘n Chew series, and completion of the Midterm Examination – all of this with a passing cumulative grade point average where the missed requirements would not drop the individual below a 2.0 (i.e., “C”) average for the class. The point here is that “Incompletes” will not be issued or granted to students whose work has been “borderline” for the semester, e.g., below a 2.0. AS stated in the CSUN catalogue, “An incomplete shall not be assigned when a student would be required to attend a major portion of the class when it is next offered.” (56)

AS stated in the CSUN Catalogue, “CR,” indicating “passed with credit,” is given for work equivalent to C or better for undergraduate students and for work equivalent to “B” or better for postbaccalaureate and graduate students. “NC,” indicating “no credit,” is given for work equivalent to C- or lower for undergraduate students and for work equivalent to “B-“ or lower for postbaccalaureate and graduate students.
