Attendance

I will take attendance at every class meeting. If you have to be absent I would appreciate advanced notice. More than five (5) absences will have an impact on your grade. Please be on time to insure that we can make maximal use of the few meetings we have.

Homework

Homework is an important part of student success in this class. Homework will assigned every Thursday in class. You are expected to hand it in the following Thursday.

Projects are the most important part of the course. I will assign them throughout the semester.

Grading

The Course

The catalog description for Math 131 states: "General Education course intended to acquaint the student with basic mathematical ideas." This is about as vague a course description as you'll find in the catalog. We'll have to fill this empty shell with some substance. I have sevreal topics in mind that I would like to work on with you. If you have topics in mind that you would like to work on please let me know. The syllabus, if one exist at all, is very flexible.

I expect you to complete work on time and with care. If you need help, you should contact me or class mates right away. Learning is NOT a spectator sport.
