INDIVIDUAL PROJECT

Each student will complete an individual project whose focus is on the design of an educational pamphlet targeted to a specific health problem and target group. A short paper detailing the development of this project will also be required and will be presented in a class session (see class schedule for session date). It is expected that students will provide copies of their pamphlets to all class members during their class presentation (50 points).

The following elements are to be addressed in the project paper:

  1. Introduction and statement of the problem being addressed by the pamphlet. This should include a discussion of the health issue itself using a minimum of five current references.     (10 points)

  2. Target group focus and description using appropriate needs assessment data or literature review to describe their target population.     (5 points)

  3. Health education learner objective(s) to be addressed by the pamphlet written in measurable terms.     (5 points)

  4. A detailed discussion of how their project was developed.     (10 points)

  5. Evaluation of the product pre and post implementation. That is, pilot testing, readability testing, SAM scoring and how your project would be
utilized and evaluated after dissemination of your product.     (10 points)

In addition to the above, the pamphlet will be evaluated for appearance, layout, scientific accuracy, message clarity, spelling, grammar, and punctuation.      (10 points)

All written reports (individual and group) must be spell-checked, double-spaced and include subheadings for ease of reading.
