The School Nurse Credential program faculty believe that
the best educational opportunities can be provided at CSUN through a
faculty - student team approach. Advisement will assist you to
complete the program and to prepare you for future work in the School
Nursing field.
Prior to your first academic advisement meeting the
following should be obtained:
1. Students must be admitted to CSUN in order to
obtain formal advisement;
2. Students should schedule a minimum of three (3)
advisement sessions during their academic careers, one in the beginning,
one midway, and one at the end of their programs;
3. For visits with your advisor, you should bring
the following:
Letter of
Acceptance into CSUN. This comes with a file number;
Letter from CSUN
Credential Preparation Office accepting student into the School Nurse
Credential Program;
Copy of a
current active and valid California RN License;
Copy of a
current CPR card;
Copy of the
Preliminary School Nurse Credential;
Copy of all
transcripts (unofficial or opened is acceptable); and
Copy of foreign
transcript evaluation (as needed).
4. Entering students are encouraged to enroll in
the following classes:
HSCI 475 -
Principles of School Nursing Practice; and
HSCI 307/ 307L -
Health Assessment in Self-Care Agency/Lab
Classes taken
over seven (7) years prior to entry into the program cannot be accepted for
credit. There may be some exceptions based on most recent job
experiences;
To be eligible
to take HSCI 476 - School Nursing Field Experience, you must complete all
requirements and have worked as a school nurse for two (2) years.
CAUTION:
Course work which is not pre-approved by your Advisor may not be
eligible for credit. Consult your Advisor before enrolling in courses
outside of CSUN.
