Internship

MPH students are required to complete up to 400 hour internship experience beginning about halfway through the Program.  The variation in hours provides the flexibility to accommodate students who already have a great deal of health education experience while also assuring that those who are relatively inexperienced will have ample opportunity to develop their practice skills before leaving the Program.  Students may request from their advisor the MPH Field Training Manual.  In this Manual students will find the requirements which must be met during the field training experience.  Students will be assisted in identifying an appropriate field training agency.  Once an agency has been identified, a Field Training Supervisor submits a curriculum vita to verify qualifications to manage a student and a willingness to meet with the University Field Training Coordinator.

The following list identifies some of the agencies providing sites for MPH graduate students in the recent past:

Aids Project Los Angeles

American Cancer Society-San Fernando Valley Unit

Blue Shield of California

California Diabetes Program

CSUN Student Health Center

Kaiser Permanente, Downey

Kaiser Permanente, Panorama City

Los Angeles County Department of Health Services

Los Angeles County Public Health

Northeast Valley Health Corporation

Northridge Hospital Medical Center

Santa Barbara Public Health Department

Sepulveda V.A. Medical Center

St. John's Regional Medical Center

Should a student wish to intern at a particular agency, the MPH Advisor should be informed and the appropriate contacts will be made.
