SAN GABRIEL MOUNTAINS TRANSECT

A 9-DAY PHILANTHROPIC GEOTREK
FROM THE PALEOPROTEROZOIC TO THE PLEISTOCENE
ALONG A CONTINENTAL PLATE BOUNDARY

Beginning June 1, 2006
Gene and Sue Fritsche and Colleagues
Will Hike the Entire Length of the San Gabriel Mountains
As A Fund-Raising Project For The

The CSUN GEOLOGY SCHOLARSHIP ENDOWMENT FUND

Because the cost of education today is so high, many geology students need financial aid if they are going to complete their geology degrees in a timely fashion and become the geologists of the future. Gene and Sue encourage you to help support these needy geology students by becoming sponsors of their geotrek. All proceeds will go to the CSUN Geological Sciences Scholarship Endowment. Please pledge your support for this worthy cause by responding as indicated below.

The total length of the geotrek is about 108 MILES and it will be completed over a 9-day period. Hiking days will be interspersed with rest days during which pictures and a geologic description of the hike days will be posted on the internet so that you can keep track of the progress of the geotrek.

If you wish to support the CSUN GEOLOGY SCHOLARSHIP ENDOWMENT FUND, please e-mail your pledge of support to Mari Flores, Department Secretary, at: mari.flores@csun.edu. Please also send a copy of your e-mail to: a.eugene.fritsche@csun.edu. After Gene and Sue have completed the geotrek, Mari will contact you for your contribution. Checks should be made out to: CSUN Foundation, with Geology Endowment on the memo line.

Also, you are encouraged to COME JOIN THE FUN WITH GENE AND SUE on any of the geotrek segments that you might choose. The weekend of June 17 and 18 is designated as ALUMNI WEEKEND and you are encouraged to get a group of you classmates together and participate on that weekend, although you are welcome to come along on any of the days. Each of the daily segments is described below. Participant's names will be reported on the internet page for the appropriate day. If you plan on attending any of the parts of the geotrek, please e-mail your intentions to: a.eugene.fritsche@csun.edu so that he can ensure sufficient room in the shuttle vehicle for return to the cars parked at the beginning of the day's hike. Also if you plan on staying overnight in Wrightwood on Saturday, June 17, let Gene know so that he can plan dinner together for everyone and inform you of available motels or campgrounds in the area.
