SAN GABRIEL MOUNTAINS TRANSECT

A 9-DAY PHILANTHROPIC GEOTREK
FROM THE PALEOPROTEROZOIC TO THE PLEISTOCENE
ALONG A CONTINENTAL PLATE BOUNDARY

Beginning June 1, 2006
Gene and Sue Fritsche and Colleagues
Will Hike the Entire Length of the San Gabriel Mountains
As A Fund-Raising Project For The

COAST GEOLOGICAL SOCIETY SCHOLARSHIP FUND

Because the cost of education today is so high, many geology students need financial aid if they are going to complete their geology degrees in a timely fashion and become the geologists of the future. Gene and Sue encourage you to help support these needy geology students by becoming sponsors of their GeoTrek. Proceeds will go to the CGS Scholarship Fund. Please pledge your support for this worthy cause by responding as indicated below.

The total length of the GeoTrek is about 108 MILES and it will be completed over a 9-day period. Hiking days will be interspersed with rest days during which pictures and a geologic description of the hike days will be posted on the internet so that you can keep track of the progress of the GeoTrek.

If you were not able to pledge your support of the GeoTrek at the April or May CGS meetings and wish to support this project and the CGS SCHOLARSHIP FUND, please e-mail your pledge of support to Gene Fritsche, at: a.eugene.fritsche@csun.edu . After Gene and Sue have completed the GeoTrek, the pledges will be collected at the June CGS meeting.

Also, you are encouraged to COME JOIN THE FUN WITH GENE AND SUE on any of the GeoTrek segments that you might choose. Each of the daily segments is described below. Participant's names will be reported on the internet page for the appropriate day. If you plan on attending any of the parts of the GeoTrek, please e-mail your intentions to: a.eugene.fritsche@csun.edu so that he can ensure sufficient room in the shuttle vehicle for return to the cars parked at the beginning of the day's hike.
