At mile 5 of the 2002 L.A. Marathon
Mile 5 - On the east side of Exposition Park at Figueroa and 39th Streets.
Feeling good and running smoothly at this point.
Note the Chinese dragon and drummers on the left behind the policeman.

At mile 10 of the 2002 L.A. Marathon
Mile 10 - Crossing the Santa Monica Freeway on Crenshaw Blvd.
Smiling and running along at a good pace.

At mile 24 of the 2002 L.A. Marathon

Still smiling, but running was becoming painful.
For the last two miles, walking was the standard mode of forward progress.

The finish - Smile on the face, medal in hand, and pain in the thighs.
Note the Coast Geological Society Santa Rosa Island T-shirt.
Someone asked if there was a Santa Rosa Island Marathon.
