When I first came to southern California I was stunned by the great number of geologic formations. This, or course, merely reflects the complex geology of the area. I have put together a list of about 100 geologic formations in the vicinity of Los Angeles. I hope this is of some use to newcomers and students - it is not finished. In reality, I just got started.
