• Reading Log
  For each text we watch or read, you will be responsible for writing a one paragraph summary and one paragraph response (S&R) posted to the assigned Canvas discussion forum. After posting, you are asked to read and respond to at least two others.

  The S&Rs should be posted by the due date for full credit. The summaries should include a clear signal phrase, the thesis, and major supporting examples. Be sure to read the instructions for each discussion forum before writing and posting.

• Progress reports
  Progress Reports are assigned primarily to keep lines of communication open as writers complete a variety of research and writing tasks. A brief written statement should help each writer review what has gone well, what is proving to be a stumbling block, and how to resolve troublesome issues as they arise. One might also use the progress reports to look ahead at what still needs to be done.

  In Mahara, create a journal for your progress reports. Then link the journal from your profile page.

  Feel free to choose from any of the following questions to help you focus a paragraph or so on your progress. Also feel free to generate your own topics and ideas, after all, these are YOUR progress reports.

  • What have you accomplished this week?
  • What or who has helped you get this work done?
  • Where are you getting behind? Why?
  • What barriers have held you back from writing what you want to write?
  • How are you managing to push through?
  • What has been your motivation to start tasks?
  • What concerns or questions do you have?

  Please do not try to answer all these questions in one post. Your writing will provide a quick snapshot of your progress and, we hope, will pinpoint both successes and problem areas. By all means, feel free to choose your own focus.

  Complete five progress reports during the semester for 5 points. No more than one progress report during any given week will be credited.
