On his journey across the country, William Least Heat Moon stops in West
Texas to explore more closely the claims people make about the area. By
closely observing his surroundings, Moon learns something important.
Like Moon, you will go to an agreed upon place on campus and carefully
observe that place for ten
minutes. Pay close attention to all five of your senses: sight, taste,
smell, sound, touch. In your journal:
List everything you observed. Go back over your list several times in
order to elaborate on anything needful.
Later, look over your list and freewrite for five minutes, trying to
focus on your list in some way.
Later, re-read both your list and your first freewrite. Then compose
a
second freewrite beginning with, "What I meant to say was..."
Be ready to read your list and both freewrites in class. Post the final,
typed version to the moodle list.
