This I Believe

I believe the Iraq and Afghanistan war should have ended many years ago. There have been many deaths, tears, and ruined lives to justify the reasons we went to war. The numbers of the U.S. servicemen and women, who have died serving their country, have almost if not surpassed the lives lost on September 11. The pain and suffering has gone on for too long. Many more children are orphans as a result of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars; two wars which were started based on lies. The Bush Administration manipulated our fears and used them to their advantage, to make us believe that the only solution was to declare war on Iraq and Afghanistan. The American people were lied to and under false pretence gave support to a war that has caused more pain and devastation.

I believe we should bring our troops home and honor them not just with honorary medals and parades, but with the American dream of owning a home in the country they have fought and sacrificed for. Honor them with quality healthcare. Honor the lives of the fallen soldiers, by providing for their families not as charity cases, but as heroes who sacrificed their loved ones. Honor our troops by bringing them home to enjoy the privileges we take for granted, like sleeping in our own bed, putting our kids to bed, eating out, reading a book, or visiting relatives. Let's honor our troops by bringing them home soon.
