HELP! Yer Basic Cheat Sheet

The best help on the MOOs is IN the MOO: help files. You can always type: help , leaving off the brackets. If you are not sure what your topic is, just page someone online and ask for help. The next best help,in the beginning, is a CHEAT SHEET. Use this and add your own notes as you progress.

Where am I?

Everything is text in the MOO. To see where you are type:
LOOK (look or just l)
look here (always the room you are in)
look
look me (to see yourself)
look book (any object)

How do I move around?

When you look at a room, you will see "obvious exits." Simply type the name of the exit, such as north (often shortened to n) and that will move you to the next room. Other ways to move about:
@go #xxxx (the number of the room you would like to teleport to)
@join To join someone in eir room, but only after:
@knock

Where is everyone?

@who returns a list of all connected people
@who shows whether this person is connected, and if not the last connection time

What do I do now?

Talking:

Say

"
note: there is no space between the " and text To Direct speech at an individual, type; -name Note: no quote marks required

Emoting (registering emotions, feelings)

All characters have numerous "social verbs" such as:
smile
wave
frown
hug (clearly this verb REQUIRES a Direct object)
hug To get a list of "social" verbs to choose from, type: social

Now what do I do?

You are free to use any name you want provided no one else is using that name. To rename your character, you will use the @rename command. Remember, names cannot have any spaces, so if you use a name such as Daffy Duck, you have several choices: Daffy-Duck, Daffy_Duck, DaffyDuck, or even Daffy*Duck.

@rename me to
Don't type the brackets < >
@gender Choose one @describe me as
Description should be rich and evocative, reflecting your character. Descriptions are rarely more than a screenful. Be sure to type 'look me' after you have described your character.

Making your virtual home:

@dig
Rooms may have spaces between words. For example, The Barn Yard would be fine.

@go #xxxx (the number of your home)

@describe here as
Like character descriptions, room descriptions rarely fill the whole screen, but they should be rich in detail so a visitor might imagine your room as you do.

@sethome
This command will ensure that your character "wakes up" in your room.

Use @audit to see the objects (and numbers of the objects) you own.

@recycle #xxxxx (substituting the object # you want to recycle, of course) will recycle any mistakes. Conserve your resources. You can create about 25 objects with the quota you have.

When you are done, reward yourself by typing @go pub and order up a virtual drink.
