Scene Assignment

Using the same image/object from movie, advertisement or videos you used for the Word picture, you will now write a "scene" in which you put the object in motion. Consider this writing similar to an improvisation. The scene should help us understand your attitude toward the object or the idea of the object.

A scene is dramatic and constructed so that readers experience the action. Readers may be drawn into the scene by a dramatic action, an interesting conversation, or by the clarity of how you set the object in motion somehow. Your scene does not need to focus overtly on the object itself, but should be the driving force or the central idea for the scene.

This assignment should not be more than one double-spaced page.

Some things to consider for this writing:

The dramatistic method, also known as the "pentad" is a way to do analysis that can be helpful in choosing how to focus your scene:

Actor: the object may become the actor, speaking or thinking
Action: the object or image may act out your idea in some way
Agency: the object may be the tool or instrument used to get some idea accomplished
Scene: where the object is placed within your overall "scene" or the time if this setting changes, the idea of the object may change as well
Purpose: consider what you are attempting to show about the image/object.
