Purpose:
A. Studying with non-Christians
1. Build a good friendship
2. Buy a Bible as a gift
3. Find out their background and present beliefs
4. Study the book of John to bring people to faith
B. Take concise notes for your non-Christain friend so he
can later review what was studied
(1) II Timothy 3:16-17
A. All scripture is inspired by God
B. It is to be applied to our lives
(2) Hebrews 4:12-13
A. The Word is relevent
B. The Word cuts (hurts) [compared to a scapel]
C. It is good to be hurt because it cuts the bad out.
(3) II Peter 1:20-21
A. There is no private interpretation of the Bible
[People can apply different parts differently, but there
is only one way that God meant it]
B. The Bible is understandable, absolute truth
C. We cannot go by our feelings, but the Word only
D. The Holy Spirit inspired the men who wrote the Bible
(4) John 8:31-32
A. Intellectual teaching is not enough
B. Everyone must hold on to and follow the teachings of Jesus to
be a true disciple
C. Sincerity does not equal truth
D. Religious people can be wrong
(5) Matthew 15:1-9
A. Do not go by traditions or creeds
[At this point a mention is made that some traditions can be good
such as going to church on a holiday, but it can not go against
the Word of God. Also, various traditions are listed in today's
religious word, Catholism being a favorite]
B. Worship by traditions is worship in vain
[Old studies went into it nullifying the Word]
(6) I Timothy 4:16
A. watch your life and doctrine closely
[a comparison is made to a plane flying with one wing or the
other.
Person is asked which is more important, until they say "both"]
B. Why is it so important to learn and to teach and to live the
right
doctrine? To save those around you.
(7) Acts 17:10-12
A. Must check what your leaders tell you
B. Your challenge: Read the Bible daily
(8) John 12:48
A. The word will judge us
Conclusion Questions:
A. From now on will you go by the Bible only and not follow traditions,
feelings, word of past religious leaders..etc?
B. Will you commit to the study of the Word daily?
[C. Will you learn how to love God? is a common 3rd though not listed]
