Seeking God

What are you looking for in life?

1. Acts 17:16-21
Briefly explain the situation in Athens.

2. Acts 17 22-28

        A. Why did God create you and bring you to this very place and
           time?

        B. Why do so few people seek God today?

           1) Not only is God unknown (v.23), but the image of God is
perverted. We wouldn't want a God like that

           2) We've created our own gods. We all worship something.

           3) From vss. 24 through 26, we need to change our idea of God,
              i.e. powerful, personal, etc.

           4) There's nothing comparable or more important than knowing
              our Creator, God.

3. Jeremiah 29: 11-14

        A. Have you ever done anything with all of your heart? What was
           it?

        B. We will find God if we seek him with all of our heart.

4. Examples of people that sought God:

        A. Acts 8:26-40

           1) Important man, very busy.
           2) Still finds God (Jerusalem trip)
           3) Took initiative to read scriptures on his own
           4) Humble; asks for help.
           5) Makes a decision about the things he learns
           6) Acts on his decision.
           7) Rejoices because he has come to know God.

        B. Acts 17:11-12

           1) Noble character; integrity.
           2) Enthusiastic.
           3) Daily examined the scriptures; it was their personal search
           4) Even though Paul was a respected church leader; they still
wanted to look up what he said for themselves. They wanted
              to have their own convictions

        C. John 1:18

           1) Where to begin in knowing God?
           2) Jesus has made God known.
           3) To the degree that you know Jesus, to that same degree you
              will know God

        D. John 20:30-31

           1) By believing in Jesus, you will have true life now and
              eternal life later.
           2) John was an eye witness to Jesus' life and ministry.
           3) There is power in the word of God to create faith. For
example, an acorn has power placed in it to produce a
              giant oak

5. Decisions/Reminders/Commitments

        A. Keep reading the bible.

        B. Let's set up a time and date for our next study before we go

        C. Always remember we are moving toward the decision that Jesus
is the son of God and the decision is to follow Jesus!

        D. Review the scriptures we have looked at on your own.
