Discipleship

This is commonly the second study, although it is occasionally switched 
with the Word of God study.  It's purpose is to get the person to admit 
that they are not a Disciple of Christ.

Intro: Matthew 28:18-20
        A. What does Jesus want everyone to become [a disciple]
        B. Which is a more popular term: Disciple or Christian?
        [What is the difference follows this question]
        C. The word "Christian" occurs on 3 time sin the New Testament. 
           The word "disciple" occurs over 270 times
        D. Saved = Christian = Disciple

(1) Mark 1:14-18
        A. Calling of first disciples
        B. Come follow me (Christ) [note is made that this discredits any 
        contary thing a religious leader may have told you in the past]
        C. "..make you fishers of men.." - Purpose for living
        D. Immediately

(2) Luke 9:23-26
        A. If any man... [this includes you]
        B. Deny self - Don't give in to moods
        C. Carry the cross - daily
        D. Gain world, forfeit soul .. lose life for Jesus, save soul

(3) Luke 14:25-33
        A. If any man...
        B. Verse 28-30  Count the cost
        C. Vs 31-32  Consider what will happen to you if you don't become 
                     a disciple
        D. Vs 26  Love Chirst more than any person
        E. Vs 27  Persecutions
        F. Vs 33  Everything, not just anything

(4) Luke 11:1-4
        A. Must be taught to pray
        B. Daily relationship with the Father
        [C. "Teach me" spirit from the diciples]

(5) John 13:34-35 [this was not an active teaching at the time I was 
                  studied with but is included in the studies today]
        A. Love one another
        B. Be an active part of the church fellowship

(6) Matthew 28:18-20
        A. Commanded to make disciples
        B. Who is a candidate for baptism?  Only disciples
        C. You need someone to disciple you to be mature in Christ
        D. This is the only way to save the world!
        [E. Mention is usually made of the "all authority on Heaven and
        earth.." line is usually made before these points]

[Imagine you are a great preacher and every day you bring another into 
your church.  Now imagine I am a disciple and once a year make another 
disciple who will reach out the same way I do.  Over the years our 
churches will grow as follows
