| I think that you characterize the church without understanding that the church is also a compilation of indivduals making decisions, some of which are good and some are bad. In most instances, the people that have left the church leave under unrepented sin or just a refusal to try to work out difficult decision. They don't really belive that they have to obey the Bible. I know who you are talking about at UCLA. I've spoken with her and I'm the one who asked that she does not return to church UNLESS she wants to change...otherwise, that just makes her a hypocrite, right? (someone who goes to worship God but does not do what God says) And why would you go out of your way to listen to "Mary"'s story and protect her identity but give Shelley's name yet not ask for Shelley's story? You should be learning at school about giving both sides of a story. Regardless, I am responding because I love the Bible and I love the Church. I've faced a number of unfair and painful situations, but I also see that God works through these situations. I guess you don't believe that God is in control...or do you? Shelley Metten messes up just like everyone else, but her life and the amount of time and energy she sacrifices should allow her some grace. She is not a nineteen year old starting out to make decisions about her standards of life, she is a woman who has lived it and survived it. If you have an attitude towards her, please talk to her and not resort to slander. I, for one, respect and love her very much and do not appreciate what you are doing. Please take a step back from the situation and get a bigger perspective... Sincerely, Pat Lin |
