Interview With Web Designer Ryan Strayer at Baby Rock Apparel:

1. Do you think that creativity is part of human nature or is it something you that is nurtured or learned?  You have it or you don’t.

2. What is your inspiration? How has it influenced your work?  I’ve always liked creating things, even from a very young age.  In addition, I like to do things myself.  When we decided to launch Baby Rock Apparel, I basically taught myself how to create the site.  Given I had no clue what I was doing when I started, I’ve revamped the entire site 3-4 times in 4 years and now I’m planning another update later this year.  I’ve always dreamed of owning my own business, so that desire is really what influenced my work.

3. What made you decide to follow a creative career choice rather than something more stable like a teacher or doctor?  Creating Baby Rock Apparel is actually a side business for me, but a full time job for my wife.   We created the company, so my wife could stay at home and work once we had our first child.  I enjoy coming up with ideas and trying to build a business around them.  I’m not patient enough to be a teacher and not smart enough to be doctorJ

4. How do you know when a piece of work is finished?  Nothing is every finished, we constantly make changes to improve.

5. What is playing your CD player right now?  Green Day

Which would you rather be: a duck, a clock, a woman or shoes? A duck, so I could fly.

Assignment #6: Interview with Creative Genius

I interviewed a local rock band called the Tommy Knockers. They are a local rock group based in the city of Sylmar California. What I found interesting about this group is they are young men from 15 to 16 years creating some buzz within the local community. They recently performed at the Verity Room located on Topanga Canyon Blvd. inside the Guitar Merchant retail store.  I asked questions to one of the members his name Jimmy Parras, he plays the lead guitarist for the group.

Text Box: 1. Is creativity in human nature or is it something that must be nurtured and learned?

Creativity is in human nature. You learn the tools for helping expand your creativity like music theory.

Text Box: 2. What made you decide to follow a creative career choice (though possibly risky) versus something more stable?

I wanted to do the thing i love to do, and be successful doing it. I wanted fame and fortune and all those goodies.
haha

Text Box: 3. What do you want to accomplish with your music?

I want to accomplish the feeling i got when i listened to my favorite bands, for another person who listens to my band, and the sense of making an impression on the music scene

Text Box: 4. What impact do you think commercialism and the media has had on your work-good or bad?

Any attention is good attention! Whether its criticism or praise, someone will read it and think about us for a split second and the more that we are on a persons mind, the better! Media and commercialism is good.

Text Box: 5. What is playing in your CD player or iPod right now?

Thrice! they are multi talented and have influenced the majority of musical style

Text Box: 6. If you had 24 hours to live, how would you spend your day?

Hanging out with friends blowing things up, laughing having good times, listening and playing music, and with my family.

Text Box: 7. How do know when a piece of music is finished and needs no additional work?

After writing a song you feel needs nothing else, you just know. You want to play it over and over, it has catchiness and brings you an inner sense of completeness.

Text Box: 8. What is your favorite piece of music that you've created and why?

I would have to say one of bands songs is my favorite, the title is The Mistakes We've Made. I wrote it right after i got home from a really good show. I was feeling pushed to write something great, and even today the song proves to be a crowd favorite, with the catchy lyrics intricate guitar work and great tempo.

Text Box: 9. What is your inspiration? How much of that comes from personal experience or imagination?

My greatest inspiration would just have to be the world around me. So many people have done the things they wanted and made it. Many more have failed. But regardless everyone has their own story and background, mistakes they've learned from, and dreams and ambitions they have. Writing a song comes from personal life, from a death in the family to having the best day of your life.
Text Box: 10. Have you ever been faced with negative feedback and how has it affected your work, if at all?

Yes i have. Depending on the feed back it could or could not affect my song writing. If i hear it from a person who is being completely honest and is stating their own opinion in a kind manner, then i will know that they care for the music, and i will greatly try to write something better. If i hear the same thing from an ignorant musically close-minded person, then i will simply shrug it off, laugh at it, and go play it again! haa

Text Box: 11. If you could be one of these four things: opposite sex, a duck, a shoe or a clock, which would you be and why?

A duck! haha all you do is chill all day and people feed you free meals! what could be better? Nothing thats what. haha
