The University Library has a physical collection containing over 1.2 million volumes, of which nearly one million are books, with over 200,000 bound volumes of periodicals. We have over 700,000 titles, of which about 8,000 are periodical titles (over 2,500 are current subscriptions). Our microforms collection contains over three million pieces, mostly microfilm and microfiche. We have over 10,000 sound recordings, 6,000 films and video recordings, and nearly 60,000 pictures and other graphic materials. Our manuscripts and archives collection exceeds 1,300 linear feet of materials.

Supplementing our physical collection, especially for periodicals, but increasingly for books as well, is an array of electronic databases providing access to indexing and in many cases texts on a 24/7 basis from on or off campus.
