Student Competitions
Our students specialize in hands on design and development of electrical and
computing systems. Many of our students participate in a competition team. These
hands-on and application-oriented group activities help establish an engaging
learning environment among students. Here are a few of the competition teams
available for your consideration.
-
Autonomous Helicopter Team
- The CSUN helicopter team competes in the international aerial robotics
competition hosted by the Association for Unmanned Vehicle Systems
International (AUVSI). This team uses a helicopter as their base platform to
perform waypoint fly and target recognition. Click on the Autonomous
Helicopter link above to learn more.

-
IEEE Paper Contest
- The paper contest is hosted by the IEEE student chapter every semester.
Through the contest, the students will not only compete on the innovative
achievement of their projects or research, but more importantly, on their
written and oral presentation skills. Click on the
IEEE CSUN student chapter link here to

-
Windows ChallengE Competition
- The Windows ChallengE competition is a project of the Windows Embedded
Academic Program, which equips students with complete embedded software and hardware
toolkits that enable cutting-edge research and technology innovation. The free
program offers access to source code, development tools and
project-development support.

Micromouse Competition
- The Micromouse is a competition for autonomous vehicles designed to get to
the center of a micromouse maze in the shortest possible time. Team members
need to work on the microcontroller, design the array of sensors for the
detection of walls (sonar sensors, infra-red sensors, etc.), build the driver
motor circuits, construct the chassis for the robot to run on, create the
Printed Circuit Board Layout, and formulate a control algorithm to incorporate
with the PWM capability of this robot. Click on the
