The Internet's Influence on Political Campaigns: Jib Jab or a Voter Vault?

As seen in the 2004 presidential election, the internet has become increasingly important to campaigns. From candidate websites to personal blogs, the internet has changed the face of politics. Through the use of emails and banner advertisements, campaigns are beginning to recognize the potential of using the internet to raise massive amounts of money.

In the 2004 election Bush's campaign created what was called a Voter Vault, a database of potential republican leaning voters who need to be persuaded to come out to vote. Although there is still the argument that people buy the message of a campaign, no matter how the message gets to the voters. Either way, voter participation is increasingly important as the country becomes more and more divided, and utilizing every available opportunity is how to win the race.
