The following is a list of SCHOLARSHIPS and ACHIEVEMENT AWARDS that are available through the Department of Cinema and Television Arts.

JUDGE JULIAN BECK SCHOLARSHIP
One $500 award

Class Level:
Applicant must be a senior, graduating in the year the award is made.

Academic Achievement:

Grade point average in the CTVA Department must be at least 3.5; overall University GPA may also be taken into consideration.

Area of Emphasis:

Service to the Department and to the community will be a major consideration in awarding the scholarship.

Procedure for Student Applicants:
1. Complete the Scholarship Application Form available online or in the CTVA Department (MZ 195).

2. Submit a complete resume, and a statement of professional goals and interests. The resume must reveal the required service to the Department and to the community.

3. Submit the names and contact numbers of three references, one of which must be a faculty member in the Department.

4. Return all materials (stapled together with application form on top) to the CTVA Department no later than March 11, 2008.

ERIC LEON HARRIS MEMORIAL SCHOLARHIP
One $500 award

Class Level:
Applicant may be a junior, senior or graduate student.

Area of Emphasis:
Student must be a CTVA major in the Screen Writing and/or Media Criticism.

Procedure for Student Applicants:

1. Complete the Scholarship Application Form available online or in the CTVA Department (MZ 195).

2. Submit feature length screenplay written while part of CTVA screenwriting option which portrays minority realities or critical essay which explores minority portrayal in media (3000 to 5000 words.)

3. Submit one page essay on long-range goals and contributions to the profession.

4. Return all materials (stapled together with application form on top) to the CTVA Department no later than March 11, 2008.

David Levy Graduate Screenwriting Scholarship
One $500 award. This is a need and merit based award. The screenplays will be judged by a committee which will include the head of the CTVA graduate screenwriting program and a representative Mr. Levy. Once awarded, if the student continues in the program and shows promise, they will receive the scholarship annually, up to a maximum of three times.

Class Level:
First year graduate student in the CTVA/MCOM program.

Academic Achievement:
Minimum GPA above 3.0.

Area of Emphasis:
Screenwriting

Procedure for Student Applicants:
1. Complete the Scholarship Application Form available online or in the CTVA Department (MZ 195).

2. Submit a feature length screenplay.

3. Submit one page essay on your long-range goals and contributions to the profession.

4. Return all materials (bound together with application form on top) to the CTVA Department no later than March 11, 2008.

MICHAEL CHRISTIAN RASMUSSEN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
One $500 award

Class Level:
1. Student must have completed at least 65 college or university units.

2. Student must have completed one year or 30 units on the CSUN campus.

3. Student must have at least one semester remaining to complete at CSUN, with a minimum of six units needed to graduate.

Academic Achievement:
1. CTVA Department - 3.5 grade-point average.

2. Overall University GPA will be used as a further consideration if necessary.

Area of Emphasis:
Student should have demonstrated continuing interest and participation in CTVA and/or University activities.

Procedure for Student Applicants:
1. Complete the Scholarship Application Form available in the CTVA Department (MZ 195).

2. Prepare a resume which includes all pertinent professional and personal information relating in any way to the communication industry.

3. Submit the names and contact numbers of three references, one of which must be a faculty member in the Department.

4. Return all materials (stapled together with application form on top) to the CTVA Department no later than March 11, 2008.

JAY ROPER MEMORIAL TELEVISION PRODUCTION SCHOLARSHIP
One $500 award

Class Level:
Junior or Senior who has completed at least one year or 30 units on the CSUN campus.

Academic Achievement:
Minimum 3.0 GPA in CTVA courses taken. Cumulative GPA may be reviewed as well.

Area of Emphasis:
Student must be a CTVA major in the Television Production option.

Procedure for Student Applicants:
1. Complete the Scholarship Application Form available online or in the CTVA Department (MZ 195).

2. Prepare a resume which includes all pertinent professional and personal information relating to the communication industry.

3. Submit a one page composition in which you discuss why you wish to work in television production, your employment goals over the next five years and your specialization in your work at CSUN.

4. Submit a VHS sample of your video work completed at CSUN.

5. Return all materials (stapled together with application form on top) to the CTVA Department no later than March 11, 2008.

6. A Scholarship Letter of Recommendation must be provided by three individuals.  One of the letters must be from a full-time faculty member in the CTVA Department.  List the people you have contacted for a recommendation as your references on the applications.  Those writing the letters will submit Letters of Recommendation under separate cover to the CTVA office.

NEW VISTAS AWARD
One $1000 award.

Class Level:
Applicant must be a senior.

Academic Achievement:
Grade point average in the CTVA Department must be at least 3.5; overall University GPA must also be at least 3.5.

Area of Emphasis:

Student must be a CTVA major in whose work is embodied a clear vision of the future of telecommunications.

Procedure for Student Applicants.
1. Complete the Scholarship Application Form available online or in the CTVA Department (MZ 195).

2. Submit a project completed at CSUN (e.g., multi-media presentation, marketing plan, critical essay, screenplay, film, television or audio production).

3. Submit the names and contact numbers of three references, one of which must be a faculty member in the Department.

4. Return all materials (packaged together with application form on top) to the CTVA Department no later than March 11, 2008.

DAVID S. SOMERVILLE MEMORIAL MEDIA RESEARCH SCHOLARSHIP
One $ 1,000 award

Class Level:
Student must be a junior or senior.

Academic Achievement:
CTVA Department - 3.5 grade point average in Cinema and Television Arts courses; overall University GPA may also be taken into consideration.

Area of Emphasis:
Student has demonstrated an outstanding classroom record in audience research courses. Student must have successfully completed CTVA 475 or an equivalent audience analysis course. Student has a professional goal of a career in the media research area. Student must have demonstrated a serious interest in a career in audience research. Students who have completed or in the process of doing an internship in audience analysis are encouraged to apply.

Procedure for Student Applicants:
1. Complete the Scholarship Application Form available online or in the CTVA Department (MZ 195).

2. Submit a one page composition in which you discuss why you wish to work in the field of audience research, the work you have already done in audience research,   your employment goals over the next five years and your specialization in your work at CSUN.

3. Return all materials (stapled together with application form on top) to the CTVA Department no later than March 11, 2008.

4. A Scholarship Letter of Recommendation must be provided by three individuals.  One of the letters must be from a full-time faculty member in the CTVA Department.  List the people you have contacted for a recommendation as your references on the applications.  Those writing the letters will submit Letters of Recommendation under separate cover to the CTVA office.

MARC YOBS MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
One $500 award

Class Level:
Student must be a graduating senior.

Academic Achievement:
CTVA Department - 3.0 grade point average; overall University GPA may also be taken into consideration.

Area of Emphasis:
Service to the Department and to the community will be a major consideration in awarding this scholarship.

AMERICAN WOMEN IN RADIO & TELEVISION
The Southern California Chapter of American Women in Radio and Television awards scholarships to students focusing on a career in radio, television, film, or multimedia. Applicants are judged on their overall presentation of themselves as potential candidates for the broadcast and film industries. Six scholarships will be distributed to students attending an university within the Los Angeles area.

Procedure for Student Applicants:
1. Complete an AWRT Scholarship application. These are available in the CTVA Office, MZ 195 or download here (.doc file) .

2. Submit a one-page resume, including personal data, professional and academic objectives, and other pertinent background information.

3. Submit a one-page composition on why you wish to get into the cinema, television or industries, what are your long-range goals, and what contributions you hope to make to the profession. Include other information which would help the judges in making their decisions.

Winners will be announced at the Awards Ceremony, so all applicants should plan to attend the AWRT "Meeting of the Minds" that will be held towards the end of the spring semester.

Abraham L. Polonsky Graduate Award in Screenwriting

WOMEN IN FILM – CRYSTAL LUCY SCHOLARSHIP
$2,000 Award

Female Junior or Senior

Academic Achievement:
3.0 in CTVA academic work.

Area of Emphasis:
All department options.

Procedure for Student Applicants:

1.  Complete the Scholarship Application Form available online or in the CTVA Department (MZ 195).

2. Applicant must submit a resume and an essay outlining your goals in the industry.

3. Return all materials (stapled together with application form on top) to the CTVA Department no later than March 11, 2008.

Dean's Award for Academic Achievement & Service
Small monetary award and certificate that is presented at a luncheon.

Categories:
Graduate Student, Senior, Junior, and Educational Equity (Senior only).

Criteria--

Class Level:
Graduate (Graduate Status)
Senior (90 units minimum)
Junior (60-89 units)

Educational Equity (must be a senior with 90 units minimum and be an EOP student or from an underrepresented population).

Academic Achievement:
GPA Requirement - 3.0 overall GPA or better.

Area of Emphasis:

Service - Outstanding service to the Department, University, and/or communinity.

Educational Equity Awards
There are eight categories of Educational Equity Awards. The Department selects student recipients for each of the categories. Except for the graduate award, students at all class levels are eligible for these awards. Every student selected will receive a certificate and be invited to a ceremony to be held at the end of the spring semester.

University Scholarship Program
There are approximately 45 merit-based and need-based scholarships available through the Financial Aid Office to students attending CSUN. Information regarding the scholarships and application forms are available at the Financial Aid Office (818-677-3000).
