Assignment Five
Due Date: March 8th
FTP
Attachments: Uploading Text Files and Graphics to your Data Network
Account
In this exercise you will create a file locally using OS X's TextEdit.
Using WebMail you will then upload this file to your data network account
and attach it to an email message which you will send to me. If you have
not already begun to do so, you will also capture a series of graphics and
put these in your public_html directory in your network account. Click here to review
your knowledge of Fetch.
- Create a file called resume.txt. Use TextEdit to create your
file.
- In this file include the following: name, date and place of birth,
academic history, job history and future job goals. This is not a formal
resume, so you can just create a series of paragraphs with this information,
using basic highlighting tools for emphasis.
- Save this file in on the desktop of your Mac, for uploading.
- Enter WebMail and compose a message to send to me, using the attachment
feature to include your resume
Then:
- Using Internet Explorer, enter a few home pages looking for a couple
of images that you like. Imagine that you are looking for images, buttons,
graphics that might be used in the construction of your home page. Remember:
if you copy generic images or buttons or graphics, things that are used
by many people on many different pages, you are within your right to "borrow".
Do not "borrow" original artwork or illustrations in questionable taste
(be sensitive to issues of sexual harassment and common courtesy).
- Capture these images according to Explorer's instructions. Direct
these images to your Personal Folder on your hard disk. Remember to choose
smaller size images.
- Using Fetch, upload these files your to your data network account,
making sure to preserve their graphic file format. Make sure to save it
into your public_html directory.
- Then email one of those images to me as described above.
