Monitoring Tolerance
Hydration status can be monitored via daily weights, hematocrit, blood urea nitrogen (BUN), and electrolytes.

High values for the above parameters indicate dehydration. A weight change of 2.2 pounds represents 1 L of fluid if the weight change is due to fluid.

Nutritional assessment indicators of protein status can be used to determine adequacy of protein intake, and weight can be used to determine adequacy of kcalories, unless the patient is retaining fluid.
