California Car Insurance
So you finally saved up enough money to get yourself that car you always wanted? Along with every new possession comes added responsibility, and a car is no exception. Most college kids start with a second hand car, and remember any car new or used, needs to be covered by insurance for it to be used on the road – that’s US law. When a cop stops you and asks for ‘your papers’ he’s asking for your ID, drivers license, car records including proof of ownership and of course the car insurance. Not having one of these can ruin a well planned evening for you and the guys!
The California Laws
In the state of California every motor vehicle owner is required to be covered for insurance in case of bodily harm to him or herself or to a third person, and be covered for property damage to self, or at least to the other in case of an accident. Do not take these car insurance requirements lightly, and the first thing you need to think of when you get a new car is making sure its papers have not expired. Do keep a check on when your insurance is expiring if it hasn’t already, and start the renewing process well before to the expiry date, so as to allow time for unforeseen delays. The state of California deems the following actions as negligence in case of accident, on the driver’s part –
1. Overspeeding
2. Failure to keep a proper lookout
3. Failure to yield right of way
4. Vehicle defects
5. Reckless acts or willful conduct (misconduct?)
6. Driving on the wrong side of the road
7. Turning in the wrong lane
8. Failure to use and or maintain brakes
9. Failure to use and/0r maintain headlights
10. Failure to give proper signals
11. Failure to maintain safe distance from other vehicles
12. Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs
Get the right car insurance
If you are looking for fresh insurance, you can always get insurance quotes for your motor vehicle by a number of providers. If you can take a comprehensive insurance policy that covers you and your car for damage from accidents natural and unnatural, nothing like it. If you are on a low budget and need just enough to be able to lawfully drive your vehicle on the roads, go for a third party insurance that covers for damage you cause to another person or his or her property, with your motor vehicle. Doesn’t sound very cheerful does it, but these things can and do happen, and they are never planned you know! If you are getting mind boggled by all this talk, you should have a discussion with an older friend or family member who is experienced in taking insurances and the likes. In fact such a person would gladly give you the number of an insurance agent and you can take it from there cant you. Not only that, discussing such things with the parents has the added advantage of letting them know that you are ‘acting grown up’ with your new car
