Instructions for using the TKAS (Teacher Knowledge Assessment System) FOR SPENGEL MATH 210 STUDENTS ONLY

You are being asked to take a survey of your mathematical knowledge for teaching (MKT) in order for us to evaluate our teaching. You will not be graded on your score. We are interested in how your score changes from an initial test (the pre-test) compared to a test at the end of the semester (the post-test).

The pre-test must be taken by September 21.

The post-test must be taken between December 1 to December 10. We encourage you to complete you’re the post-test during the week of December 1st.

  1. Log on to the teacher login URL:  https://projects.isr.umich.edu/tkas/teacher/.

  1. Enter the program code for your class 8000072168 and press return.

  1. The first time you log on click on “create log in”. You will be asked to create your own user account and provide some information (your first & last name, email account, telephone #).  Be sure to write down the name and password you create (maybe inside your text) so that you will be able to log back on to the same account later.  You must do both pre-test and post-test to earn credit.  We will match the pre and post test scores and see how the class has learned. Please do not ask anyone for help, or work with a friend or look up answers. You may use paper and pencil to work on the problems.

  1. You may skip any question you do not want to answer. When you hit the “next” button to move on to another question, you will receive one reminder for each unanswered question. Then, if you hit “next” again, you are moved forward to a new question and unanswered questions are entered as skipped. You will not be able to go back to previous questions.

  1. If a computer crashes or you stop in the middle of an assessment, when logging back into the system you are restarted where you left off. You can stop by clicking the X in the upper left corner.   (If you get disconnected and have trouble logging in again, it may help to close your web browser (Safari, Internet Explorer, Mozilla, etc.) and start it up again.)

  1. Let me know if you have any trouble.
