Scholarships

 

           

 

 

One $500 GRADUATE SCHOLARSHIP

       One $400 UNDERGRADUATE SCHOLARSHIP

 

Qualifications

                        •  A 3.5 overall GPA from an accredited community college, or a 3.7 GPA in the last 30

                             units attempted.

                        •   The student must enroll in Fall term after the CGS Annual Meeting as an

                             undergraduate or graduate major in GEOGRAPHY in any two or four year college or

                             university in California. The award will be granted in the fall upon proof of

                             enrollment in a geography related program.

                        •   At the time of application the student must be a member of the California

                             Geographical Society to receive the scholarship.

Application                                  

            A complete application contains the following:

                        •  A letter, not to exceed three double-spaced typed pages, identifying the award

                             (undergraduate or graduate) sought, an essay describing the student's career

                             goals, specific interests and a description of the applicant’s recent geographically-

                             related activities,

                        •   Two (2) letters of recommendation from instructors, one of whom must be a

                             Geography instructor, and

                        •   Unofficial copies of all college transcripts (note:  official transcripts will be required

                             prior to the issuance of  the scholarship check)

 

All scholarship materials must be sent at one time!  Complete application packets must be postmarked on, or before, March 2, 2007, and should be mailed to:

Scholarships will be announced at the Saturday Awards Banquet (March 17, 2007) during our annual conference at Anza-Borrego State Park, Borrego Springs, CA.  You are STRONGLY ENCOURAGED to attend this event.
