Sinaloa State is located at the northwest of Mexico. The state has two main
regions and very different each other. The attire and music in the northern part
of the state has a more "norteño" or northern style due to its influence of
Sonora State. On the other hand, we have, the southern part of Sinaloa which
attire and music are those of the "coast" style. In fact, many authors could
site that this style is more the one from Nayarit State, at the south of Sinaloa.
This style shows more colorful skirts and long bell-style sleeve blouse for
women, and flower-fabric shirts and hat for men. One of the most attractive
moments of this dance is when women open and waive their skirts, moving their
arms from their waists to the top of their heads.
