FundraisersAT BFA we organize fundraisers that help us cover the expenses derived from our activities. Our performances include a number of regions of Mexico that require us to buy different attire and accessories. In addition, other activities like attending workshops and organizing social events also require us to look for funding. We organize different fundraisers during the year that include yard, food and candy sales. As a CSUN organization, we also receive sponsorship from various campus departments such as Chicano Studies, Associated Students University Corporation, and the College of Humanities. If you are interested in sponsoring us please follow this link to contact us, we appreciate your interest and we thank you in advance.
Off Campus ActivitiesCommunity ServiceWe have organized and participated in several community service projects such as our annual food and clothing drive for the San Fernando Mission, fundraising for our annual Folklor de Mexico show, BFA’s annual high school and CSUN scholarships, teaching folklórico to elementary children through LAPD’s PALS program and participating in the Padres Contra El Cancer, “Adopt a Family,” holiday program. This is all part of our commitment to reach out to the surrounding community
WorkshopsWe also look forward to improving our dancing skills by attending conferences like Danzantes Unidos. Part of our repertoire includes songs that we have directly learned from Prof. Miguel Diaz, who teaches Folklórico at CSUN and is one of the best professional dancers in California.
SocialsWe believe that diversifying our activities help us know each other and work better as a team. Social events are full of fun and it is a great time for all of us! At BFA we like to organize parties, pot lucks, picnics, bowling nights and other interesting activities. We also celebrate special events such Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Valentine's day. Many times we even share these moments with our families.
Mexican folkloric dance for childrenBFA is pleased to invite all the children that are interested in learning Mexican folkloric dance to join an off campus dancing club. This children group is taught by members of Ballet Folklorico Aztlan de CSUN. For more information visit Lucas's Club website or contact us. Informational EventsBFA participates and organizes different recruiting events where we provide you with information about our activities. Our participation includes events such as Orientation Week at CSUN and Meet the Clubs Day. We also organize an Informational Meeting in our practice room, where all our visitors can learn and experience Mexican folklorico dance the very same day! For more information regarding these events, please contact us, we will be very pleased to assist you. Click here to see our video presentation!
Member of the MonthEach month, BFA's Executive Board votes for the member or members that have shown prove of improvement, great enthusiasm, or other positive aspect in their participation at BFA. This awards are important in our team because they encourage each of the members to keep doing better at personal and at group level. Please visit our Member of the Month section to know those enthusiastic members!
BFA ScholarshipsIn 2004, BFA's E-Board members came out with the great idea of offering a scholarship to Latino students that demonstrated outstanding academic achievements and community service. Students that meet the requirements can apply for a scholarship that will help them to ease their school financial constraints. If you are a CSUN student, BFA member or a graduating High School Senior, you may qualify for the BFA scholarship. This scholarship is awarded at the Folklor de México concert that takes place around April of each year. 2010 BFA Scholarship
